Under the Fair Work Act 2009, personal/carer's leave (sick leave) covers illness and injury — which explicitly includes mental health conditions. Anxiety, depression, panic disorders, burnout, and stress-related illness are all legitimate reasons to take sick leave in Australia.
Full-time employees are entitled to 10 days of paid personal/carer's leave per year, which accumulates. Part-time employees receive a pro-rata amount.
